Who We Are

The Prize Zine is a magazine for and by queer Africans that amplifies the stories of queer people on the continent and in the diaspora.

What We’re Looking For

For Pride Month, we are looking for stories that show what queerness looks like in Africa told through any creative medium (prose, poetry, personal essays, and art).

The stories should highlight the lives of queer Africans in and out of the closet. We want real stories that show the pains and joys we experience as we try to live our truths while avoiding state-sanctioned violence.

Stories can also highlight the hopes and dreams of queer people in our imagined futures.

Guidelines

  1. Prose and personal essays should be a maximum of 2,000 words. Poetry should not be more than 10 verses.
  2. Please include one hi-res image that is relevant to your piece. Images must be free to use and properly attributed. Unsplash has a collection of royalty-free images that meet Medium’s standards
  3. All writing submissions should be in docx format, with double line spacing. Art should be in jpeg or png formats.
  4. Submissions should be made to thepridezine@gmail.com.
  5. If we accept your writing submission, we may work with you to edit the piece. We would only publish your piece if you approve of the edits.

Anonymity

The Pride Zine publishes Queer writers no matter their level of expertise and whether or not they are openly queer. Therefore, we accept anonymous submissions.

Payment

At this time, The Pride Zine cannot afford to pay writers. We are hoping this changes soon.
